I started drawing because I couldn’t express in other way. Then came the paint to add color to my language. Now the color is the most important and then comes the color themes to explore. For this reason I identify myself as a painter, not an artist. My work in graphic, poetry, video art and documentary are an extension of the painting, the color.
As a painter I chose oil paint as my main material, its physical properties that match my metaphysical intentions. Waiting times are times of meditation, the alchemy of preparation of colors and media is painting is like cooking, the nobility of the brush in response to the oil, like hands on surfaces; it moved me. When I explore other artistic languages, I always try to carry the qualities of oil painting.
I'm sure I chose oil for its sensible qualities, for its ability to awake all senses, touch, smell, taste, sight, even hearing. Following the senses I reached desire, and as a counterpart to anger. My work is a constant oscillation between anger and desire. I consider a work is finished when I found a balance between desire and rage, retaining that exact point between contrasts. Contrasts in color allowed me to understand the balance in contrasts, from the physical to the conceptual. The painting, graphics, video and poetry, always present in narrative contrasts.
Then, you would ask what it is my favorite color? Currently, I think it would be pink colors. In them I found the balance of opposites, is the average of the bright yellow and dark blue. Also, pink mediate between fury and desire, between reality and dream, between the intimate and the public.
After 10 years of painting I finally feel that my work is finally of my own, accidents and coincidences have now a meaning, a direction, I become consistent, now I am confident that my work gives me clarity.
