Best Paddle Boards asserts that stand up paddle boarding is not extremely difficult to learn. That can’t be said with as much conviction for surfing. And unlike surfing, you can paddle board on just about any navigable body of water. Certainly, standing up on the board and paddling take a little practice. But you can watch a good video or have someone guide you through the basic process in short order. Literally minutes.

That being said, there are plenty of things to learn in paddle boarding, and these shouldn’t be minimized. If you have the opportunity to join a class, do so. There is a proper technique and if you know it, you can excel. Also, an instructor can teach you a little about the shape and design of the paddle board and how these attributes affect stability and performance. A good instructor will also go over safety issues, self-rescue techniques, paddling and standing techniques, and even stretching to prepare for a paddle boarding excursion.

If you already surf, so much the better. When you learn to surf, however, you can expect to spend as much time (or more) in the water as on the board. Not so with the paddle boarding. In the learning phase of your development trajectory, you’ll be riding the paddle board (as opposed to splashing about in the water) more often and longer when compared to surfing.

After the basics, you can develop or discover your own techniques and style, adding your own bit of flair and personality.

Strictly speaking, swimming ability isn’t a requirement of paddle boarding, but it is definitely recommended. You can get an excellent core workout paddle boarding, and many have incorporated this sport into a diverse fitness regiments. You can paddle without a great deal of exertion, or you can paddle full out – you control the intensity level of the workout. And so the workout you get is in direct proportion to the energy you put into it. You decide.

Family, friends, kids, grandma and grandpa … what Best Paddle Boards likes about the sport is just about everyone can do it. And it’s just a ton of fun..
