Gene Philbin

Pittston, PA

My love affair with food began when I was 12 years old. I spent most of my time in the kitchen with my Italian mother and my Aunts from West Pittston. I would experiment by adding seasonings to their sauce for Sunday supper.

Before and after I completed Culinary school, the majority of my experience is cooking, although I have worked in other areas of the restaurant as well as corporate dining and in food sales.

My goal is to create an amazing food experience that will excite your senses, while showing that passion that goes into creating each dish. I support local, sustainable food and enjoy partnering with other local organizations.

My style of cooking is what I like to call gastro-grub, a spin on the term gastro-pub, where I focus mainly on comfort food, while using nuevelle techniques.

We are working on building our catering company with the addition of a food truck in the near future.

I love to give back to the community in the form of food and music related events. Check out our Annual Event, Peculiar Music Festival. This year the proceeds will go to the Greater Pittston Meals on Wheels Association.

We started Peculiar by doing Pop Up Restaurants and we were the first to do so in Northeastern PA in 2012.
