As the Head of US Debt Finance & Restructuring at Canaccord Genuity Inc., Geoffrey Richards advises corporations, investment firms, and creditors in complex mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and in corporate restructuring. Geoff has advised more than 100 public and private companies, hedge funds, private equity sponsors, purchasers of distressed assets and businesses and others. Before joining Canaccord Genuity, he was a partner at William Blair and Company where he built a unique situations and restructuring practice. Before that, he worked as a partner in the restructuring group at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

Richards earned his bachelor’s degree in 1992 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was President of Phi Alpha Theta and a member of the Iron Cross Society. He went on to receive a law degree from the Brooklyn Law School in 1995 and worked as an attorney before transitioning into the banking industry.

Geoffrey also studied as a visiting student at the Northwestern University School of Law, where he currently teaches the course Corporate Restructuring in his capacity as an Adjunct Professor of Law.

Geoffrey has received a number of awards over the course of his successful career. The Distressed M&A and Turnaround Intelligence Forum named Geoffrey Richards its 2012 Middle Market Investment Banker of the Year, and Turnarounds & Workouts magazine selected him as one of its Outstanding Investment Bankers for 2011. In 2012, Geoffrey won the Restructuring Banker of the Year award and in 2009, became an honoree of Chicago's 40 Under 40.
