About Geoff

A Guardian of Nature; Practitioner of Photography & Musician

Born in Jesmond Dene, England, Geoff Scott-Simpson is an Andalucian-based naturalist and photographer passionately adding original works to his oeuvre and whose genre is constantly evolving. Inspired by the work of American photographers Eliot Porter; Galen Rowell & John Shaw, he entered the world of professional photography in 2000 having previously sought employment as a Consultant Gemmologist in the City working with such luminaries as Cartier; Chaumet; De Beers; Sotheby's & Wartski. He is widely regarded as a leading expert on all matters relating to gemstone crystallography and identification, therefore you would be right to assume he knows his spodumene from his zoisite and a considerable amount about precious gemstones; dichroism; pleochroism; spectrometry; x-ray diffraction and analytical optics, the later being a particularly useful attribute for a discerning photographer who advocates the use of Tilt & Shift lenses and can demonstrate and explain in Plain English the 'Scheimpflug principle' to those interested in such technicalities.

His in-depth knowledge also extends to a diverse range of natural history subjects, including though not limited to: Iberian Lynx Conservation; Old World Chameleons; European Orchidaceae; Lepidoptera & Ornithology. The perpetual search for that perfect image and the desire to create idiosyncratic work, a sense of humour and a dedicated work ethic are the hallmark of his craft.
