George Flynn
Born in Quantico, Va., the son of a career Marine Corps officer. Graduated from Gar-Field H.S., Woodbridge, Va., in 1956 and migrated to Miami to be hired as a copy boy on The Miami Herald. Was awed by young college grad reporters making a living by writing about life. Wangled a scholarship to Univ. Miami, graduating in 1961 to become Ens. Flynn, USNR. Out of Navy in 1966 and straight back to The Herald as Key West bureau chief. Worked as reporter and editor until 1973 when I enrolled in grad school at Florida Atlantic, then landing a professorship at Texas A&M. Later earned a Ph.D. in media from the University of North Texas (1980). Retired from teaching at California State University, Fesno, in 2000. Currently reside in Sun City retirement community in Georgetown, TX.
