George Gilland

Marlow, Oklahoma

George A. Gilland is lead potter at Gille Pottery. Though George’s formal training in pottery consists of two courses from University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, he has been throwing pottery since 1994. George has also been a teacher of pottery students since 2003, During this time, George was able to refine his own pottery techniques, while teaching others. Since 2011, George’s style had undergone a radical change under the influence of video lessons from potter Shin Chuen-Lin.

Gille Pottery produces two lines of pottery: functional dinnerware and religious altarware. The dinnerware consists of cups/mugs, bowls of various sizes, lidded serving bowls, casseroles, saucers, plates and platters, and various sized vases. The religious altarware consist of chalices and pattens, baptismal basins and pitchers.

Serving as a a pastor in the United Methodist Church for forty years, George was a part of revival in liturgical worship. His experience as a designer of worship services has given him a keen sense to the altar and altarware, which enhances the experience of those who lead and participate in worship.

In the recent past, he has produced the altarware for the chapel at Oklahoma City University, as well as numerous chalices and pattens for pastors serving in the Oklahoma Conference.

He has also produced pitchers and basins for the Order of Deacons for the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church,
