George Abie Williams laid the foundation for his successful career in the financial services industry as an undergraduate at Virginia Tech, obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1976. In 1981, Williams accepted a position with Legg Mason Wood Walker, Inc., in Radford, Virginia. He steadily worked his way up the company ladder, eventually becoming Branch Manager and Senior Vice President. Consistently recognized as a leading contributor to the firm, Williams was a long time member of the firms top investment advisor groups and sat on the Advisory Council for the highest ranking executives. When Citi Smith Barney acquired the Legg Mason in 2005, George Abie Williams stayed on as an integral member of the team. He remained with the company until 2009, when it merged with Morgan Stanley to become one of the biggest investment firms in the nation. During his time with the firm, Williams gained national recognition as an outstanding broker in Registered Rep. magazine and twice appeared on Virginia Business magazine’s annual list of the Top 50 Wealth Advisors in the state. George Abie Williams currently utilizes his vast experience in wealth management to provide guidance to clients as a Senior Vice President of Investments with Stifel Nicolaus & Co., Inc. In addition to his accomplishments in the financial services industry, George Abie Williams has directly contributed to the Radford community in numerous ways. Williams developed the housing subdivision known as Inglewood and is in the process of renovating a section of the city’s historic West End, attracting new businesses and modernizing old properties. He previously acted as the leader of numerous other local organizations, including the Radford Host Lions Club, the Radford University Foundation Athletic Association, and the Radford Industrial Development Authority. George Abie Williams has also contributes to area schools as a charter member and longtime Chairman of the Radford High School Foundation, which raises money for various development projects. A devout Christian, Williams teaches Sunday school and holds status as an ordained deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Radford.
