Georgette Thomas

New York

Hello, my name is Georgette Thomas. I am a student at Queens College. One of my most interesting class this semester is computer science.

My introduction will briefly states some facts about myself.

While raising my children I was very involved with them in church, and community. At church I served as a member of the Rosary Society Committee and served as a Secretary for three years and is still serving as an Usher.. We have also participated in the Caribbean Labor day parades on Fifth Avenue, Eastern Parkway and even Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade over the years. I am a member of a Democratic Club. I have worked with P.T.A and community and team organizations promoting events and fundraising. I have done seven continuous years of organizing and promoting sports day events, neighborhood cleaning, savings program, art, and dancing, after school and summer program for the community children. Sponsors and donations were from community businesses and leaders, Police Athletic League, NYC Sanitation, Green Point Savings Bank, neighbors and friends. The children in the programs, were selected from neighborhood schools and churches. They enjoyed holiday gifts, dinner, trips, competitions, trophies and awards. I have received honorable awards for my service from the City Sanitation and community Councilman. I have also received honorable award as an Academic & Social Development Lecturer. I was mother of the year twice; once from the children's writing contest acknowledged in the Queens Press Community paper and my last award received was on the Prayer Channel – Woman to Woman Show while being interviewed in 2006. In 2008, I decided to return to school to further my education as a part-time student since the children are now young adults. I have slowed down on the amount of community service I have been involved with. In doing so, I am able to devote some of my time to help the Nathan Family members on the dream of having a two-day family reunion which was very successful.
