Georgi Iliev
GeorgiIlievis a writer with over 15 years of experience. His first collection of plays was published by the American University in Bulgaria in 1996. In 1999, Georgi received his M.F.A. in Playwriting from UCLA. In Los Angeles, he has interned at The Geffen Playhouse, the Academy Awards production office and the writers offices of E.R. on the Warner Bros. lot, and worked as a literary associate (writing coverage and managing the archives and database) at A.S.K. Theater Projects. Georgi assisted legendary Leon Katz, Professor Emeritus at Yale, in writing and publishing the critical anthology Classical Monologues from Aeschylus to Bernard Shaw (Applause Books). Three of Georgi's plays have had productions in Los Angeles, most notably at the Francis Ford Coppola's One-Act Play Festival and the North Hollywood Festival of the Arts. Georgi Iliev has two novels published in Bulgaria: The Life and Death of Mr. Iliev (Janet-45, 2006), national award for outstanding debut, and Holy Fool: Dogtown (Janet-45, 2009), voted 2010 Book of the Year. Holy Fool is currently being developed into a TV series by Hollywood-based New Films International. Georgi’s novellas Iron Bridge and Bezden are soon to be published by Ciela. His stories have appeared in the Bulgarian edition of the world's premier literary magazine Granta, as well as Skive magazine, Australia. Georgi is editor of Violeta Draganova’s novel Alone with the Truth(Ciela, 2012). In Bulgaria, he has produced primetime TV series Forbidden Love(Freemantle/Nova Television) and served as Head Writer on The Mall/House of Glass(Camera/bTV), as well as writer on feature film Mission London (SIA/Camera), and creative consultant on TV7’s primetime series Tree of Life, Sex, Lies & TV, Morning Show, Mitrani Law, Shmenti Capelli: The Legend, as well as the upcoming Liaisons on bTV.
