I am a self-employed professional photographer, running my own small wedding and portrait photography company; Juniper Wood Photography

My love of photography started as a child when my dad presented me with a bright green 35mm camera for my birthday. I think I was 7! As a teen I progressed to his old Olympus 35mm and he gave me a brief overview of the basics of photography.

I'm not quite sure when I fell in love with the idea of being a photographer but it was probably when I bought my first mid range DSLR (Nikon D70s) and won a photography competition. I received an award for "Outstanding Achievement in Amateur Photography 2005" and as a result was a finalist for Amateur Photographer of the year. I started studying a BA in Photography with the Open College of the Arts and completed the year with high marks. The course covered the basics of photography and photo editing with Photoshop. Having studied this, I could have then gone on to gain 1st level accreditation with the Royal Photographic Society and used the letters "LRPS" after my name (Licentiateship Royal Photographic Society). I never did this due to the financial cost, but I hope to gain this recognition one day.

While studying for this qualification and working full time I started helping a local photographer with weddings. Before long I left my full time office job and worked for him full time. During this time my passion for photography grew.

While I have always loved macro and fine art photography, I found a love for wedding and portrait photography. Mainly because I enjoy being a part of someone's special day and I get a wonderful sense of pride in presenting them with beautiful images. I enjoy making people happy (who doesn't?!)

I'm now very happy to report I am back in the saddle after a few years out of the business to focus on my family, I'm studying a photography course to refresh my skills and I'm building up my portfolio and gaining knowledge and skills with each job that comes my way.
