Susan and I are mountain born and bred, both from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Boone, NC. Our family includes two sons: Brad and Brian. Brad and his wife Marci and their four children, Ellie, Jane, Larkin and Jack live in the beautiful metropolis of Merry Oaks, NC.; Brian and his wife Elise and our newest grandson, Parker, live and work in Washington, DC.
I’m a UNC Tarheel and an ASU Mountaineer, having attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and graduated from Appalachian State University in 1980 with a degree in Business Administration. After six years in business with North Carolina National Bank and Westinghouse Corporation, God called me out of service in my local church into full time ministry. The first step was seminary at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, in Fort Worth, where I served a Pastor of an inner-city mission known as Hemphill Heights Church. I graduated in 1990 and from Ft. Worth God called us to Westwood.
For the last twenty-five years God has blessed the work at Westwood and has grown the church both numerically and, more importantly, spiritually. Our focus is on expositional preaching, loving one-another in a covenant relationship of grace, growing disciples and sending them out into the world to fulfill the great commission.
I am an avid bicyclist, enjoy hunting & fishing, football, love the beach and the mountains, enjoy different kinds of music, cooking & gardening with Susan and spending time with my family, especially my four grandkids!
