Originally trained as a pianist, an interest in keyboard performance practice led me to study with Carole Cerasi (harpsichord and fortepiano) and Terence Charlston (clavichord and continuo) for an MA in Harpsichord Performance at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where I graduated with distinction.
My performance experiences are both rich and diverse. I play a wide variety of keyboards (piano, fortepiano, harpsichord, clavichord, virginal, celesta...) perhaps with the exception of the pipe organ – an instrument I love but never got around to learning it. I have performed in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Australia, and naturally, in my native homeland, Singapore.
Much of my early musical training started on the piano under Low Shao Ying. After obtaining an LRSM piano diploma with distinction, I went to university looking to major in piano performance and musicology. Instead, it was the harpsichord that caught my interest, for which I owe an immense debt to my first harpsichord teacher, Christine Whiffen. An unlikely marriage of a double major in harpsichord performance and a dissertation topic on the Allusions in Alkan's Music ensued – esoteric yet exciting.
Outside the field of music, I have a soft spot for gadgets and all things technology. As an amateur photographer, I have had a picture published by the National Library Board, Singapore.
