Gerald Veasley
Gerald Veasley is a bassist with extensive experience as a performer, composer, recording artist and educator. He has worked with important jazz artists such as: Grover Washington, Jr., Joe Zawinul, McCoy Tyner, The Jaco Pastorius Big Band and Nnenna Freelon. He is also a versatile musician, having recorded with such diverse artists as: pop diva Vanessa Williams, soul legend Teddy Pendergrass, R&B great Gerald Levert, gospel icons The Dixie Hummingbirds, and DJ/Remixer King Britt, among others.
Before starting his recording career, Gerald toured and recorded with two influential contemporary jazz bands: the Zawinul Syndicate (1988 to 1995) and Grover Washington, Jr. (1985 – 1990, 1995 to 1999). He also toured and recorded with Special EFX and Pieces of a Dream (2000 to 2005).
In 1992, Gerald started recording as a leader and subsequently released eight CDs on the Heads Up label, including, On The Fast Track, which yielded the top ten hit, “Do I Do”. His studio and live collaborations have included the talents of notable artists such as: John Legend, Ledisi, Kirk Whalum, Dianne Reeves and Chuck Loeb.
Gerald's work has been recognized in the Downbeat Reader's and Critic's Poll as well as Jazziz (“Best Electric Bassist).
In 2010 he founded Fanwave Media, a music marketing company, with Richard Waller to assist musicians in the DIY environment. Gerald's current recording, The Electric Mingus Project is released on the company's label division, Fanwave Music Group.
Gerald lives in Philadelphia with his wife and youngest daughter.
