Gerard Duff

My name is Gerard and I'm an embedded systems engineer. I started my engineering education by undertaking a four year electronic engineering degree at the national university of Ireland in Galway. The course was a mix of hardware (building simple circuits) and software (mostly C and VHDL) with a general introduction to a host of other engineering disciplines. As part of the degree I had the opportunity to work for the company that made one of the first micro-controllers, Intel, for half a year.

The next step on my engineering journey was a two year masters degree at

Mälardalen University in Västerås. The course gave a lot of freedom when choosing projects and I chose to focus on embedded software where possible. During the course I was lucky enough to complete successful projects for Volvo Car, SICS and Volvo CE.

My latest step was to move into full time employment with Syntronic software innovations in Gävle. Working there has combined the best parts of my education. There is a lot of freedom to choose projects and I've been lucky enough to work with some brilliant engineers. My projects to date have been a large industrial project containing many different embedded systems, and some smaller project assignments to gain experience working with a relatively small embedded system that controls an industrial process.

In my spare time I like to play music and learn languages, both computer and spoken.
