My recent work combines my background in social work and my interest in law and, especially, innocent people wrongly convicted. When I was in grad. school for the master's degree in social work, I enrolled in the certificate program, "Social Work and the Law." Last year I notified a few innocence groups that I am available to do legal research and/or draft pleadings. A young man was referred to me. He became my project and I expect he will be exonerated as a result of the work I did on his behalf.
I am the author of three nonfiction books about the viatical and life settlements industry; editor of the only legal text about this industry; and author of a legal suspense novel about an innocent person targeted by prosecutors and betrayed by defense lawyers. I hoped through this book, which is intended to be entertaining, to educate a larger segment of the public about how easy it is to become a criminal defendant. Then Michael came along, and his true story is far more dramatic. We will be releasing details and copies of the pleadings, after they are filed and docketed with the court.
