As you have probably noticed by now, the picture to the left is not a picture of me in the sense you are used to. If you take a moment to soak in the details, it’s a lot more telling than any portrait picture could be. I am a person and could tell you what I look like. Well, I am a short male… wow, so interesting. More importantly, this picture is meant to portray exactly what I saw and how I felt while scanning the Atlanta skyline. This picture is my imagination, it is what I want and hope. It is still and moving. It is a freeze of time. It is a somber rest before a busy city day. It is literally the calm before the storm. You can’t pinpoint this picture to any specific part of me; rather, it is my whole self at a moment in time. Whenever I look at this picture, I time-travel back to this moment. I could show you thousands of other pictures of me — like this one — as I am always exploring. I don’t like to see things for myself, but I like to experience things for myself. I like to be present in a moment so I can look back to my past with clarity. I learned recently that the encoding part of my brain is stimulated when I photograph. For all of the 20,000 pictures I’ve taken in 2019, I can remember exactly how I felt and the circumstances surrounding each shot. You won’t; however, you will know more about me through this picture of me than any standard portrait shot.
