Amherst Massachusetts
Currently, I am a Junior Finance major at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. When making my decision on which major to choose, I took into account that I had always been an exceptional math student and I had a passion for business. In high school, I was introduced to my first business courses, specifically accounting. Originally, this was my major of choice, but after taking some courses at UMass, I realized Finance was a better fit for me. This past summer, I had an internship at the Hanover Insurance Group. Although I did gain very useful business skills and experiences, I learned that insurance is not the field that I want be in when I am older. When trying to select a new career path, I decided to follow my true passion--sports. Moneyball, one of my favorite movies of all time, exemplifies my ideal job. The tools learned from economics and finance are applied to the game of baseball in a way that no one had attempted before. Right now, I realize that this career may be a long shot because very few teams in professional sports use this method, however, I believe that in the future, this is method is going to the be the way to win games. All in all, my goal for the future is to find a career where I can combine two of my biggest passions: business and sports. I have grown up around sports my whole life and I am know gaining a broader knowledge of business each day. Whether it is with a Boston sports team, or someone else, I know if I can find a place where I combine my two passions for a job, I will be truly happy.
