Sudeep Ghimire
Hydropower Engineer in Kathmandu, Nepal
Sudeep Ghimire is a Nepalese hydropower engineer, climate advocate, youth leader, and sustainability professional working at the intersection of infrastructure development, climate action, and youth empowerment. Born and raised in rural Nepal, his journey from the hills of Palpa to representing Nepal at global climate and youth platforms reflects a deep commitment toward sustainable development and positive social impact.
Currently serving in Nepal’s hydropower sector, Sudeep has been actively involved in large-scale renewable energy and infrastructure projects including the Lower Solu Hydropower Project (82 MW) and Likhu-IV Hydroelectric Project (52.4 MW). His professional work focuses on project management, sustainable infrastructure, environmental and social compliance, and stakeholder coordination with international consultants and lenders.
Beyond engineering, Sudeep has dedicated much of his life to climate action, youth leadership, and SDG advocacy. As a long-time member and Cluster Head with the Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation, he has helped train more than 5,000 children on climate justice and environmental awareness while contributing to plantation campaigns involving over 3,000 trees across Nepal and India. He strongly believes that empowering children and youth is one of the most powerful ways to create long-term climate solutions.
Sudeep is also a Climate Reality Leader trained under former US Vice President Al Gore and has represented Nepal at several international fellowships, climate conferences, and youth summits including COP26 in Glasgow, Asia Pacific Climate Week in Thailand, UNCCD COP14 in India, and international youth summits across Germany, Italy, and Monaco. These global experiences strengthened his belief that local action and global collaboration must go hand in hand.
From a young age, Sudeep showed strong interest in civic engagement, communication, and youth participation. During his high school years, he co-founded “Glocal Khabar,” a youth-led media initiative aimed at highlighting stories of young changemakers and social issues. He later remained active with “Sano Sansar Initiative,” a platform focused on promoting debating culture, environmental awareness, SDGs, and active citizenship among students and youth in Nepal. Throughout his journey, Sudeep has received several scholarships, fellowships, grants, and leadership recognitions.
Sudeep believes that Nepal’s future depends on sustainable infrastructure, climate resilience, youth leadership, and global cooperation. Through his professional career and social engagement, he continues working toward a future that is greener, more inclusive, and driven by empowered young people.
