Gigi LaMayne

Genesis Gabriella Tina Manney better known by her stage name Gigi Lamayne is a South African Hip Hop award winning rapper, singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist. She has recorded two studio mix tape albums, “Circus Café” in 2012 and “The Colour of Reign” in 2014. Gigi Lamayne made history by being the youngest female rapper to be nominated and win several awards in the second year of the annual South African Hip Hop Awards.
Her sophomore mix tape “The Colour of Reign” was released on the 9th of August 2014. The album was produced by southern African based producers, the Mix Masterz International (Shayzar, Zee, Ginx and Ronny j Drizz), in collaboration with some of South Africa s top Hip Hop producers XLR, Dynamic, J-Twinn, Tux Man, Smash Hits and Neo Beats. Additional production was added by Amu as a free download single officially used by the South African governments voting awareness campaigns in the election period of 2013.
The Colour Of Reign mix tape album primarily features different artists across southern Africa such as Zakwe, Siya Shezi, Skwatta Kamp s Infa, Maraza, Mr Calibre, Tumi (of the Volume), Cindy Munyavi (of Bryce Music Nation), Karma YungMarley, Kruna, Reverb 360, Simz 27, Pro, Captain Fs, Kabomo, Fimo The Beat Boxer and L-Tido. Lamayne and Mix Masterz executive producer Shayzar insisted on having a “sample free” mix tape with only original compositions so as to have the album garner an organic, original African feel that could not be replicated anywhere in the world despite its heavy American influenced Hip Hop drum lines and synthesizers.
The mix tape album was promoted with three singles. The first to be marketed on South African airwaves was the rock guitar inspired single “City Lights” which peaked at number 1 on Kasi top 5 on Ukhozi Fm and had a generally positive success on Johannesburg radio stations. The lead single “Yajika Lento” which featured Zakwe, Rashid Kay, Mr Calibre, Skwatta Kamps Infadizle, Kruna and Siya Shezi peaked at number 1 on YFM hot 99 with over 40 000 free downloads in the first two weeks of its release. A music video was then released as part of the promotional material on the day of her album launch. A third single which featured Zimbabwean DJ Naida was launched in Zimbabwe by ZiFm Stereo s breakfast show,” the Ignition”. Four more singles are expected to follow until the end of year.
