Gihan Abou Zeid is an Egyptian activist in the development field and an authority on women's rights in Egypt and in the Arab world. Gihan has 20 years of professional experience in research, training, editing in gender, human rights and democracy. She is a technical advisor on youth polices in the Arab world, gender mainstreaming, women political participation, special measures for enhancing WPP. Moreover, she has participated in international research projects on various aspects of youth, democracy, gender and development with IPU, UN agencies, Arab League, international universities and civil society organizations.
Gihan is the chairperson of Azza Helal association for human rights, that established after 25th. Revaluation to combated the stat violence against female and male activists
In addition, she has always worked with a strong commitment to women's rights and has been actively engaged in women’s networks, including 9 years as board member at “NGO’s Forum For Women in Development”.
Gihan delivered training programs to USAID Cairo, Ministry of Labor in Oman, GCC Bahrain, Ministry of social affair in Bahrain, National council for women (NCW), National council for childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) in Egypt, El Jazeera T.V, Ministry of social affair in Dubai, Bahrain, Oman, CIDA, SIDA, IDEA, UNDP, UNFPA,IPU and hundreds of NGO’s. Furthermore, she has been invited as a speaker to numerous of international and regional conferences on gender issues, female preachers, human rights, and democracy. Gihan has written 2 books and contributed to numerous scholarly books and journals. She has a weekly column in Arabic and she a regular writer in some respectable daily newspapers.
