I grew up in a small, somewhat conservative community in West Virginia. I graduated from Marshall University with a BA in advertising and marketing.
I moved several times, living as far away as Seattle, but I gradually started moving closer to home. When I was pregnant with my son, I finally came back home to White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia to be close to my family.
Being a small town, it was difficult to find anything challenging to do with my degree. I decided to become a business owner because the challenge was appealing. Succeed or fail, it would be all mine to enjoy or lament.
For a business to succeed here, I knew, it had to be unique and I had to be passionate about my work. I considered a few choices, a coffee and wine shop, a pet store, even a house cleaning business, but none of those really intrigued me.
Now, lingerie - that is a fun luxury that every woman has indulged in at one time or another. A woman wears a bra and panties everyday, they should be fun, sexy, and comfortable. It all seemed so exciting!
Once I opened Little Black Box in 2007, in Lewisburg, WV, some people thought it would not be successful. I suppose their image of a lingerie shop included sticky floors and dark back rooms. That is so funny to me.
Little Black Box is the epitome of girly-girl satin fluff and ribbons, sexy lingerie, cute bras and panties, and all things that make it fun to be a girl!
