Gin Monkey
Gin Monkey
By day I work in Science Communication for the NC3Rs, by night I work in a brilliant little cocktail bar in Shoreditch and write about all things cocktail, gin and bars on Gin Monkey, a website/blog that I set up in late 2009.
After a brief stint in Geneva I returned to London, discovered many new bars but no way to search for them easily and so decided to set up Gin Monkey, an impartial and independent online guide to good cocktails and the best bars.
Since launching Gin Monkey I have gone on to launch an app: London's Best Cocktail Bars, and co-founded the London Cocktail Society (which I now run solo). In 2013 I took over the organisation of World Gin Day, founded by fellow gin enthusiast Neil Houston which has continued to grow, and now reaches a global audience of over 100 million people (based on website and social media stats).
I have experience running gin and cocktail masterclasses for a variety of audiences, including classes and talks specifically on the CASK range of gins in the role of 'Independent Gin Expert', and hosting consumer gin tours around London in my role as 'Gin Guardian' for Shake, Rattle and Stir.
I also have experience of distilling gin, and assisting others to do so, through the Gin Lab sessions at City of London Distillery and a week-long run of gin sessions aboard the Disco Volante with Vestal Voyages in the summer of 2014 (now run on a regular basis by Shake, Rattle and Stir).
For the past two years I have assisted a number of brands and bars with their social media presence, websites (including building sites from scratch on open source CMS), and launch strategies in London.
My first book, The Periodic Table of Cocktails, will be published by Ebury Press in the Autumn of 2015!
