Content Strategy, Social Media Stategy, and Copywriting in Detroit, MI
Growing up on Detroit’s east side—in one of America’s most dangerous zip codes—has shaped my life and work. As a teen, Link T.V. recruited me to produce content for YouthNoise, a program that explored health disparities and cultivating safe spaces for youth in Detroit. In that role, I discovered my passion for writing about emerging technologies, overlooked music artists, and anything pertaining to my community. Eventually, this led to an opportunity to mentor other young writers and producers for a youth-led journalism movement called Our Life in D. The program was funded by Michigan's Children and represented youth in every neighborhood in Detroit. Our blog remained active until 2012.
Some of the outlets I've contributed to include: TIME Magazine, Detroit Free Press, Metro Times, HBCU Buzz, Osborn Voice, and various blogs and newspapers in my community. My writing (and tweets) have been quoted in articles on CNN, TMZ, Huffington Post, FOX, BET, Michigan Chronicle, and others.
I take pride in my role as a digital storyteller because I can amplify the voices of people in my community. Most notably, the City of Detroit presented me with a Spirit of Detroit award for my efforts in journalism and media literacy in 2011.
