Giovanni Inzalaco
Research and Computer graphics
I am Giovanni Inzalaco, a biologist and dedicated researcher specializing in cancer and cellular biology. I hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, followed by a PhD in Genetics, Oncology, and Clinical Medicine from the University of Siena. My academic path reflects a commitment to unraveling the complexities of human disease, with a particular focus on using cellular mechanisms to develop more effective therapeutic strategies.
Research Contributions
My primary research focuses on understanding and overcoming the complex mechanisms driving cancer progression and resistance. I have contributed to groundbreaking studies that propose innovative strategies to tackle critical challenges, such as the blood-brain barrier's role in limiting treatment efficacy. These efforts aim to enhance therapeutic outcomes and reduce the ability of tumors like glioblastoma to exploit their microenvironments and develop drug resistance. Our findings emphasize the potential of using advanced nanomaterials for targeted drug delivery, improving overall treatment efficacy.
Additionally, I collaborated on research aimed at discovering a new actionable target for treating triple-negative breast cancer. Furthermore, recently, my colleagues and I have investigated the role of the key protein MAPK15 in regulating mitochondrial health. This research highlights how a better understanding of cellular stress response mechanisms, can contribute to both cancer prevention and treatment challenges.
Art and Science: Bridging Both Worlds
One unique aspect of my work is my dedication to visual communication. I use graphic design and illustration to make complex biological concepts clearer and more engaging, particularly in research publications. Employing tools like digital graphic software, I craft detailed visuals that not only enhance scientific manuscripts but also make data and mechanisms more accessible to the research community and the public. This approach enriches my scientific storytelling, ensuring that both the complexities and the significance of my work are better understood.
