Gladness Thando Mabena
Teacher in Johannesburg, South Africa
I was born in Springs in 1990, August the 19th. I grew up in Bronkhorstspruit, a small developing town 50 km east of Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa along the N4 highway towards Witbank - It lies on the border between the Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces. At the age of 16, in 2006, I moved to Mossel Bay, a harbour town of about 60,000 people on the Southern Cape of South Africa. I loved it there!
After completing Matric, I studied a two-year course at The Academy of Sound Engineering, after which I obtained a diploma in the field, with a specialization in Radio production. Two years went passed and I was unemployed. Following a great deal of contemplation, I decided to pursue a career in Education, with the desire to change someone’s life out there, as mine as been changed by some great teachers in my past. I’m still in the pursuit of this dream, to be a life- and game-changer in the South African education field and I’m getting closer and closer.
I am currently a third year student at the University of Johannesburg, left with one more year and a few months to obtain my Bachelors in Education, specializing in English as well as ICT Support.
I am interested in the field of IT in education and, I am still very much interested in the field of Radio production. I am also somewhat keen to become a life-coach later in my life and on top of that, do a whole lot of travelling.
