Glen McKay is a Newfoundland & Labrador and Alberta based entrepreneur and businessman who has written his own success story in the areas of finance, resource exploration, development and product supply.
With a career spanning more than 40 years, Glen began as a Business Development Executive and Branch Manager of Minpaco in St. John’s, Newfoundland, work that eventually led him to set up a specialized equipment company, MRO Supplies Ltd., in 1978. MRO Supplies specialized in equipment sales for Mining, Pulp and Paper, Fisheries, Forestry, Marine, Quarries, Water, Sewer and Roadbuilding. The company was sold in 1989 to Stellar Industrial.
Glen has made a significant impact in the Newfoundland and Labrador business community. He is also known in the Canadian mining industry and has experience as a financial consultant in private and public equity investments, residential and commercial property leasing.
In 1987, Glen invested as a shareholder and remained on the Board of Directors as Chairman of Apex Construction Specialties Inc., providing the startup capital required for the company, which specialized in construction and building products. The company was sold to an investment group in Quebec in 2017.
During his tenure with Cornerstone Capital Resources, which was established in 1997 with Glen as a co-founder, he expanded Cornerstone’s resource exploration beyond Newfoundland and Labrador to Ecuador and Chile and earned recognition for spearheading the company’s growth.
Glen was serving as President, CEO and Vice-Chair in 2011 when Cornerstone acquired the prized Cascabel project in Ecuador, which is gaining worldwide recognition as a major mineable copper-gold deposit. He still holds many shares in Cornerstone Capital Resources.
In 1987, Newfoundland Hard-Rok Inc. was incorporated as a separate entity by Glen McKay, who sold part of it to two MRO Supplies employees—Carl Foss and Keith Phelan, who were then looking after the explosives division of MRO since 1985. As a team they propelled the drilling, blasting and explosives manufacturing company to achieve impressive growth. Currently, Glen serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of Newfoundland Hard-Rok and manages the company’s finances and administration.
Glen McKay has been a successful entrepreneur in Newfoundland and Labrador, involved primarily in resource exploration, development and supply of products to resource based industries.
