Global Awareness is an understanding of global and cultural perspectives. This workshop explores social and cultural aspects of the students and teachers who make up our classrooms. Diversity is the recognition of differences and commonalities among people from which they can begin to understand each other. Through on–screen presentations, props, literature, and group sharing, educators learn how to incorporate cultural learning into existing curriculum for grades K-12. This fast-paced, interactive workshop covers folklore, oral hygiene, body art, foods and herbal remedies. Bring a sense of humor and an appetite for the unusual!
Through the use of folklore we deliver a message on first impressions and introduce Mexican jumping beans. How oral hygiene needs have been met globally, takes the audience into Europe and Africa for answers. Origins of decorative body art used by many our youths today are explored as well as home remedies passed down through generations. Lastly, we look at the foods we are accustomed to eating and why. Through this presentation, topics meet core curriculum requirements for History, Geography, Social Studies, Science, Math and Language Arts.
