Hi and welcome to my "about me" page,
What is an oceanographer, is always the first question I get asked. Are you a photographer of the ocean? is the most common question people ask me. Well no, I wish, but in reality according to our beloved Wikipedia an oceanographer is:
"Oceanography (compound of the Greek words ωκεανός meaning "ocean" and γράφω meaning "to write"), also called oceanology or marine science, is the branch of Earth science that studies the ocean. It covers a wide range of topics, including marine organisms and ecosystem dynamics; ocean currents, waves, and geophysical fluid dynamics; plate tectonics and the geology of the sea floor; and fluxes of various chemical substances and physical properties within the ocean and across its boundaries. These diverse topics reflect multiple disciplines that oceanographers blend to further knowledge of the world ocean and understanding of processes within it: biology, chemistry, geology, meteorology, and physics as well as geography."
Now thats a lot of words for a job subscription, but nontheless, I enjoy what I do and actually wish we have a one word description!
Fortunately and unfortunately being an oceanographer comes with its pros and cons but for me I try that the pros take the upper hand. I have been researching 'things' for a while now, including different aspects of the ocean and enriched my knowledge on those 'things' as much as I could! I will add to this page as much as possible on a regular basis as there is no fun in telling a story from start to finish in one go but rather piece by piece. Believe me, I have many stories to tell dating back to my first year at University! Keep reading!
