Glynn Servy

Foreign language instructor Glynn Servy came by much of his ability in the spoken word naturally, growing up in France and the United States as a dual citizen of both countries. He speaks English and French fluently and is proficient in Spanish and Italian. Growing up, Glynn Servy spent a year in France, where he participated in activities related to boy scouts, rugby, and horseback riding. As a student, Glynn Servy played sports, performed in two musicals and participated in the debate team in high school. Glynn Servy possesses a diverse background in teaching, ranging from providing English instruction to kindergartners and teachers in Japan to teaching French to medical laboratory technicians. He has also offered tutoring in Spanish, French, and Italian to private students in the United States and in Europe, and he has delivered instruction in foreign languages to high school students in Georgia. Servy’s success as a foreign language instructor lies in his use of a method known as Total Physical Response Storytelling (TPRS), which uses kinesthetic responses to commands and listening to stories to teach a second language. He has used TPRS to help students achieve a conversational level in a second language in short amounts of time. Glynn Servy holds a Bachelor’s in History from Wake Forest University in North Carolina and a Master’s in Spanish Language and Culture from Salamanca University in Spain. He is currently studying foreign language teaching techniques at Auburn University in Alabama. Glynn Servy is involved in community service, working with Project Open Hand to prepare and deliver meals to people who are ill or have limited mobility. He also works with the Threads Project of the local Episcopal church, helping provide clothing for people in need. He has helped raise money for cancer by walking on behalf of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
