Gregor Mendel
Brürnn , Austrohungary
I was born on July 20, 1822 in Austrohungary Heinzendorf, and was baptized with the name Johann Mendel. I taked the name of my father Gregorio to enter as an Augustinian friar, in 1843, in the Augustinian monastery in Brünn. In 1847 I ordered as a priest. I was the right hand of the Emperor Franz Joseph, I created the Austrian Meteorological Association.
I was a member of the Royal and Imperial Society for improving Agriculture.
I presented my work at meetings of the Natural History Society of Brünn, February 8th and March 8th, 1865, subsequently published experiments and investigation of plants in 1866. The results of my experiments were ignored completely and spent more than thirty years for them to be recognized and understood. Even Charles Darwin knew of my work.
I died on January 6, 1884 in Brünn.
