Mandlenkosi Zwane
Godfrey Mandlenkosi Zwane was born and raised in a small township called Kagiso Ext 12 in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg. He started his primary education in 2000 at the neighbouring public school named Thusong Primary School. He then progressed and completed his secondary education at Thuto Pele Secondary School in 2011. Zwane always loved and enjoyed spending his free time playing soccer for various local teams. His desire for soccer introduced him to different South African provinces, namely the Northern Cape, North West, Mpumalanga, Kwa-Zulu Natal and Western Cape when he was playing for a development side of FCAK, a football club that was playing in the National First Division League from 2009 to 2011. Zwane’s football career rocked-bottom when he was doing his matric (grade 12) in 2011 but with his forever existing spirit to never give he managed to bounce back and he is now playing for an internal club in the University of Johannesburg (UJ). G.M Zwane decided to further his studies to the tertiary level after a very long and exhausting gap-year in 2012 and enrolled to be an FET Life Science teacher at UJ in 2013, which is expected to take him 4 years before earning his first degree. This visionary, dedicated and hard working student-teacher is currently doing his third year in the BEd course and he is so impatient to start transforming the face of science education in South Africa. His ideas of innovation and scaffolding will play an important role in improving the efficiency of science resources, which their quantity in many public schools, especially in rural areas, is respectively low.
