Aleksandr Golberg Bio

A leading pioneer in 3d surround sound music recording, Aleksandr Golberg

received the award in 2002 presented by United Entertainment Media at Beverly

Hilton Hollywood for best new surround music composition for his recording

Space or Dream of Life. This award recognizes excellence in the technical and

artistic expertise required to produce innovation and quality in surround sound.

Aleksandr has been pushing the boundaries of the 3d surround music genre for

the past twenty years, having released 200 albums during this time, he has

refined and expanded the art in ways that were refreshing, surprising, and

sometimes shocking. Aleksandr continues today to expand the 3d surround

music universe to greater depths of the reality of sound.

Born in Moscow, Aleksandr started playing music at the age of seven. ”Coming

from a classical music background I was always looking at sound and acoustics

as a main creative element of music perception.“ said Aleksandr in an interview

with High Fidelity Review in 2002. “In my early years l was always searching for

the perfect location in a room to play one of my instruments, exploring how to use

its acoustics to complement the performance. Little did I know that this desire to

explore acoustics would lead to my career in sound and music art.”

Modern recording techniques have come dramatically far in a short period of

time. From reel to reel tapes, to audio Betamax, and then the advent of digital

media such as ADATs. Over the last 25 years we have we have witnessed the

arrival of hard drive recording systems and the many add—ons like ProTools with

pitch correction and WAV editing. The assembly of musical recordings was

moving into a new age. In the not too distant past, choral composers like Eric

Whitacre pioneered the concept of a “virtual choir,” where people from diverse

locations on the planet could join together to sing in the same electronically

orchestrated choir. And now we are introduced to an “assembled” orchestra

under the virtual baton of Aleksandr Golberg, who produces audio Blu-rays under

a variety of labels such as Surround Records and Media in Vision.

Aleksandr has been a pioneer in audio Blu-ray and has released several

outstanding discs where he’s licensed previously recorded material, repurposed

for hi—def audio with the purpose of producing the dramatic and penetrating

mystique of surround versions.
