Goldie Wassermuhl
After a long career in counselling, retiree Goldie Wassermuhl now performs volunteer counselling for those unable to afford the cost of these services. She graduated from the University of Toronto with Master’s degrees in Education and Applied Psychology. In her last position, she served as a Counselor in the Counselling & Disability Services department at Seneca College. She worked with students and staff to find solutions to barriers that impeded academic success. She provided individual counselling to help students overcome such issues as depression, low self-confidence, lack of motivation, and relationship difficulties. In this role, Goldie Wassermuhl also referred students to other school and community resources, such as the school’s comprehensive tutoring programs at the Learning Center. Residing with her husband in both Canada and the United States, Goldie Wassermuhl volunteers and fundraises for various charitable causes, particularly those affecting the health and well-being of the Jewish community. She holds membership in the Lions of Judah at the Jewish Federation of Canada. She joins with other female Jewish leaders in this organization to fund high-need programs, such as residential and treatment services for abused and neglected Israeli children who require placement outside the home. Her effectiveness in the Jewish United Appeal campaign earned her a coveted Lions of Judah pin. In the last three years, Goldie Wassermuhl has raised funds for cancer programs addressing women’s issues with Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation. Furthermore, she has been a longtime supporter of the programs of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. The Toronto Jewish Film Festival has honored the generosity of Goldie Wassermuhl with membership in the Patron’s Circle. During her leisure time, Goldie Wassermuhl enjoys exercising, particularly power walking in the outdoors. She and her husband take pleasure in hiking excursions. Travel is also one of her favored activities.
