Bruce Berlet
I was born in Baltimore, grew up in Litchfield, Conn., won state titles in soccer and basketball at Litchfield High School, attended the University of Connecticut, co-hosted a golf radio talk show with Bob Samek for eight years and was a sports writer for The Hartford Courant for 381/2 years before taking a buyout in August, 2008. My major beats were golf, the New England and Hartford Whalers, UConn men's and women's basketball and numerous other professional and college sports. I have also written for several golf and hockey publications and currently work for Whalers Sports and Entertainment that handles the business operations of the American Hockey League's Connecticut Whale (formerly the Hartford Wolf Pack) and headed by Howard Baldwin, the former owner and managing general partner of the Whalers. I also do freelance work in golf and hockey when not enjoying life with my wife Nancy, daughter Brooke and 6-year-old grandson Ryan, who's a sports fanatic and especially loves going to Connecticut Whale games.
