Oral surgeon Dr. Gopikiran Thota graduated from the Drexel University College of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine after attending the Baylor College of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery. Before that, Dr. Thota studied biology at the University of Texas at Austin, earning his Bachelor of Arts in 1997.
Following the completion of his medical and dental degrees, Dr. Gopikiran Thota undertook his internship and residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At Allegheny General Hospital, he also served as a resident in general surgery.
Dr. Gopikiran Thota supplemented his extensive medical education with additional certifications in trauma and cardiac life support, as well as emergency medicine. Dr. Thota has also completed advanced coursework in temporomandibular joint disorders and orthognathic surgery, as well as the treatment of cranio-maxillofacial trauma and reconstruction.
In his current position at Ocean Dental in Houston, Texas, Dr. Gopikiran Thota performs oral surgeries, tooth extractions, and pre-prosthetic surgeries. In addition, he remains an expert in pathology and offers a number of sedation and anesthesia options for his patients. Respected in his profession, he has presented on topics such as osteoradionecrosis, sleep apnea, and research on facial wounds in motorcycle crashes before and after Pennsylvania’s helmet law was changed.
Dr. Gopi Thota has advanced his profession through membership in the Resident Organization of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and American Medical Student Association. Beyond practicing medicine, Dr. Thota enjoys playing basketball, soccer, football, and cricket; cooking; watching movies; reading; traveling; and investing.
