Gordon Finlay
Musician and Teacher in Royal Oak, Michigan
Gordon Finlay, dramatic tenor, is a graduate of University of Michigan School of Music, where he was an honors student and full scholarship recipient and studied with noted soprano, the late Eva Likova. Mr. Finlay has sung leading tenor roles with numerous opera companies, includingthe Michigan Opera Theater, where he debuted as Tamino opposite Kathleen Battle; as well as Opera Grand Rapids, and the Toledo and Indianapolis Operas. His roles have included: Alfredo in La Traviata; Tamino in The Magic Flute; Camille in The Merry Widow; Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly; and the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto.
Along with appearing on radio and television, as well as in the Detroit Institute of Art’s Brunch with Bach Series, Mr. Finlay has been presented in recital at Detroit’s Orchestra Hall and has been the Tenor Soloist in the Verdi Requiem with the Detroit Masterworks Festival Chorus. Mr. Finlay has been an adjunct Instructor of Voice at Wayne State University for more than 20 years, and maintains an extensive private studio and performance schedule.
