Both of my parents are animal lovers, so I grew up with pets in the house. I have always had multiple dogs, and have also had a cat for most of my life. The chaos that comes with having pets is greatly outweighed by the joy and love animals bring to a home. Having pets is a lifestyle, and you become accustomed to feeding them, walking them, letting them outside, and chasing them when they run away. I previously could have never imagined a life without pets. However my grandfather is not a fan of animals, so my mom grew up without any pets. This always seemed like the most strange concept in the world to me. I couldn’t imagine having nothing there to jump on you when you walk through the door, or sit at your feet while you eat dinner. Now that I have moved into college and live in a dorm, I understand what it’s like to come home and have no animal jump on you, and to have no one beg for scraps of my food. Although I am thrilled to be here and love being in college, I certainly miss my dogs and look forward to seeing them soon. The one thing that living in a dorm has taught me is that as soon as I graduate and get my own place, a dog will be the first thing I bring home.
