Amanda Graham

Amherst, Massachusetts, United States

Born and raised in Amesbury MA, Massachusetts has always been home to me. This, along with the incredible programs and opportunities offered made my decision to go to The Isenberg School of Business at The University of Massachusetts an obvious one. Currently a junior, I am studying Hospitality Tourism Management and Marketing.

My passion is for people, this is why the hospitality industry is the right place for me. I love experiencing new things and meeting new people. My favorite thing to do in my spare time is to explore new places with my friends. I think that making memories is one of the most important things you can do because you can grow and learn from the experiences you have and they will ultimately make you a better, wiser, and more well rounded person. I also think making meaningful friendships is a big part of meeting people; my friendships are one of the most significant things in my life. Another small passion I have is for cooking, I find it very relaxing and feel extremely accomplished when I finish a recipe. I also have a passion for Football; I think watching the Patriots every week is the best part about Autumn.

From 2010 to present I've been working at James Place Out-of-School Child Care program as an Activities Coordinator. My day to day responsibilities include organizing and leading various of activities from art projects to outdoor games, preparing snacks and monitoring meals, and being a role model for the kids in the organization.

From 2013 to present I have also been working at The Roots Cafe, which is a dining option on campus at UMass. Working at the cafe has taught me valuable information about Micros Register Systems, pizza-making, basic grill knowledge, espresso bar skills, food prep skills, and amazing customer service experience.

This past summer, I spent one week on Nantucket Island, MA (located off of Cape Cod) volunteering at the annual Nantucket Wine Festival. This was an amazing and fun experience that has widened my knowledge of the hospitality industry.

My aspirations for the future include graduating from UMass and getting a job within the hospitality industry that will allow me to also utilize my marketing skills; I think working in a country club would be an excellent option for me. In the future I would also like to travel across the United States and parts of Europe. Although I could work almost anywhere in the United States working in the hospitality industr
