The Greater Downtown Collective was formed by community leaders, business owners and not-for-profits to address the New Jersey Department of Transportations (NJDOT) plans to develop and reroute, Route 280 East and West in Newark, NJ.

There are a list of concerns residents, business owners and non-for-profits have raised in response to the development, directly related to the environmental impact.

The area proposed by NJDOT is located in a lower income, mixed use residential area.
