Gregg Barron
Teacher in Saugerties
I grew up in a musical household in a small Boston suburb. Whether Ray Charles was playing on the turntable, the family was around the piano singing old favorites, my sister was in her sixth hour of flute practice or I was trying to improvise over Jamie Aebersold playalong records, music permeated our household.
Unwilling to rely on my sax chops to pay the rent, I studied Music Industry at Syracuse University. I headed straight to New York after graduating, where I enjoyed a three decades career in music licensing. I learned from the best of the best at EMI, Cherry Lane Music Publishing and BMG working with the catalogs of The Beatles, Queen, Nirvana, Carole King, Elvis Presley, John Legend, Quincy Jones and myriads more talented writers and performers.
I have led teams across all facets of licensing from synch to mechanical, sampling to digital media, closing deals with Google, Amazon, Facebook and many others before joining Barefoot Media, where I consult DSP's for all of their music licensing needs.
In the fall of 2023, I returned to Syracuse - this time as a professor of Music Industry. When not at school, I spend my time in Saugerties, NY on the sidelines of my son's soccer field, building something in my shop, working on a new recipe and enjoying skiing or taking a paddle with the love of my life.
