Greg Walker

Neuquen, Argentina

I graduated from high school in Oxford, Mississippi and went to college at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. At Vanderbilt, I majored in mechanical engineering with a minor in engineering management. After graduation, I joined Schlumberger, the world's largest oil services provider.

I’m a wireline engineer, which means I lower special tools on a long cable down oil wells to perform various services. These services can vary widely, from well perforation (with explosives) to tools that use sound to find problems with the casing or cement.

With Schlumberger, I worked for several years in the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania and briefly on a shale project in China. After China, I accepted a transfer to work in Neuquén, Argentina, where I've been for the past two years. I'm currently working on my Spanish, as I speak it exclusively with most clients and colleagues. I hope to be fully fluent in Spanish someday. It's a demanding job, but also very exciting!

In my free time I enjoy scuba diving and traveling. I’ve been to countries all over North and South America, Asia, and Europe. Whenever I get a break from work, I try to see something new!

Regarding career advancement, I’m interested in international business with a focus on the energy sector. The problem of energy sustainability is going to be an even bigger issue in the coming years, and will need to be solved on a global scale.
