Teaching Philosophy
My teaching of English aims to empower young people to communicate clearly and think critically. On a lesson-by-lesson basis, my students must be able to articulate what they feel they have gained from their learning experience, since nothing motivates a student more than achievement. On a holistic basis, I believe that the study of English enables students to challenge and, ultimately, discover themselves as confident, spiritual and moral beings. It is especially important for this holistic aim that an English department supports students of all abilities to succeed. Equally, a school is judged primarily by its results, and to achieve the outstanding academic results expected by All Saints' School[i] I believe that medium term planning should be informed by effective assessment.

The intention of this can be summed up in one idea that I share with all my classes: no one's idea must fail. For this, the students' sincere mistakes, as much as their achievements, should shape the lessons: not the slavish deliver of an unstinting scheme of work. This philosophy has been vindicated by observations from various Senior Leaders in various schools over four years that have always rated my teaching as 'outstanding' and 'inspirational.'
