A social studies teacher with Shawnee Mission School District in Overland Park, Kansas, Greg Smith also oversees the Kelsey Smith Foundation, Inc. As the executive director, Greg Smith runs all of its programs, which include tracking legislation and crime trends, performing community outreach, and educating the public about security and reducing dangers to their children. Since its inception in 2007, the Kelsey Smith Foundation has run safety awareness courses for over 25,000 people. Moreover, Greg Smith has received the Joshua Hancock One Love Award from the CUE (Community United Effort) Center for Missing Persons, Director’s Community Leadership Award from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Outstanding Services on Behalf of Victims of Crime Award from Kansas City Area Wide Chapter POM.
Along with his responsibilities with the Kelsey Smith Foundation, Senator Smith further aids people throughout Kansas by serving as a state legislator. After spending two years as a state representative, he was elected to the Kansas State Senate in 2013. Among Senator Smith’s achievements while in office include sponsoring Caylee’s Law and the Penn State Act, both of which increase protection of children.
