Greta James

I am a writer living and writing in Chatham and Yancey Counties in North Carolina with my roots in West Virginia.

In 2011 my public school memoir, “The More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same,” was published in A Living History of Central West Virginia, One-Room Schoolin’. A flash fiction piece, "Life with the Cats" won first place in a 2010 competition of the Chatham Chapter of the NC Writers’ Network (NCWN). While working at University of North Carolina Hospital, an article, “A Support Group for Burn Victims and Their Families,” was published in the Social Work with Groups and American Psychological Association journals.

I have an A.B. Education degree in English and Speech from Glenville State College, Glenville, WV, and a Master’s degree in Social Work from West Virginia University. I am a member of the NCWN and belong to a writing critique group. I am also completing certification in the Creative Writing Program at Central Carolina Community College.

Currently I am submitting a short story titled "Adult Education.," working on a novel, "Not So Private Practice," in an 18 month course* with Darnell Arnoult and building my writer's platform.

When I'm not writing, I'm reading, taking photos, and enjoying family activities when our schedules coincide. I have a second novel, a memoir, and two short stories waiting on the shelf in rough draft.I also blog at gretajames.blogspot.com.

*We meet in Sweetwater, TN, for weekend workshops every three months over an 18 month period.
