I am an Associate Professor at Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) (National Center for Research and Teaching in Economics) in Mexico City, where I am in charge of the Journalism Program.

My work examines the relationship between media and politics. Particularly, my research analyzes how governmental strategies of control (i.e., advertisement expenditures, libel laws or open repression) affects the press’s contents. I find that particular configurations of both societal and institutional constrains can mediate the effect of governmental attempts to silence criticism.

My work has been published by The International Journal of Press/Politics, Foro Internacional, Política y Gobierno, Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Politicas y Sociales, Colombia Internacional, among others.

Currently I am a member of the System of National Researchers sponsored by the Mexican Council for Science and Technology, and part of Mexico’s work team for Worlds of Journalism Study.

I am a fan of writing, journalism, and running. I’m also interested in outdoors and music. You can read my articles with a click on the button above.
