A fossil represents a structure that no longer functions as the vessel of life, but the beauty of life's spirit may still be seen many millions of years after the death of an individual whose ideas, thoughts, and name we'll never know.
In this art it is my intention to provoke these ideas, images, and thoughts of life as it really is the spirit of life that intrigues me and enriches my existence.
My work as a fossil artist has captivated the world for over 25 years, and has been featured in many publications and reviews such as Prehistoric Times magazine. My process involves working with nuts, bolts, screws, and other pieces of metal which are embedded into wet concrete to produce the prehistoric fossils. Once dried, they are then rubbed with shoe polish to create the effect of a fossilized creature.
If you have the chance to visit the Colorado Mills Mall in Lakewood--you will find at the Indiana (southside) entrance a 40-foot installation piece that I was commissioned to create in 2002.
