Guadalupe Muro

My name is Guadalupe Muro and I was born in 1985 in Bariloche, Argentina. When I was seventeen I moved from my small town in Patagonia to Buenos Aires to go to the University of Buenos Aires (UBA).

In 2007 my first poetry book “¿Con Quién Dormias?” (Ed. Huesos de Jibia, Bs As) was published and in 2008 some of my poems appeared in the anthology “Última poesía argentina” (Franco, Mileo y Cófreces–comp. – Ed. En Danza, Bs As).

In 2009 I attended the clinic of chronicles “Continuará” by María Sonia Cristoff in the School of Writers at Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas.

In 2011 I was awarded with a residency at the Wired Writing Studio at Banff Centre (Canada)
In 2012 I was recipient of “The Raul Urtasun - Frances Harley Scholarship for Young Emerging Artists from Argentina” to assist to the Spoken Word Program in Banff Center, where I worked on a literary and musical project called Songs For Runaway Girls, conceived as the original soundtrack to the book “Air Carnation.” The Argentine musicians Ana López and Julián Muro are also part of this project.
Also, the publishing house Pánico el Pánico, Bs. As. published a book called “Escribir en Canadá. Una biografía de Guadalupe Muro” The book is a compilation the publisher made of the texts I posted on my Facebook profile during my second trip to Banff Centre.
In 2013 I was awarded a residency at the Writing Studio in Banff Centre and I started the collaborative literary project “Las Cartas de Guadalupe” as a creative way to crowd fund the fee for the Writing Studio. The project is still ongoing and can be visited at lascartasdeguadalupe.com
In 2014 my first novel, “Air Carnation”,was published by BookThug Publishing House in Toronto and I independently produced the recording of the album Songs For Runaway Girls to go along with the novel. The album can be heard at songsforrunawaygirls.com, or can be found on Spotify, iTunes and more.

Through the generosity of Argentine Cultural Affairs Bureau I traveled to Canada with the band to launch the book with its music and tour with Songs For Runaway Girls for a month with shows in Montreal, Toronto and London, Ontario among others.

My work appeared on Open Field (Digital Magazine, Australia); Eleveneleven, Journal of Literature & Art (California College of the Arts), Blanco Sobre Blanco (Art Magazine, Buenos Aires); Jai-Alai Magazine (University of Wynwood Press, Miami, FL)
