International Day Reflection

The Philippines is officially known as the Republic of the Philippines, which is located in Southwest Asia, situated in the western Pacific Ocean. Manila is the capital of the Philippines but Quezon City, which is near to Manila. For our international day project we decided to research and learn about the gun law and gun control in the Philippines since it is one of the most important topics worldwide and most of the people don't know what's happening in the Philippines regarding guns and gun control. We were encouraged to learn about the problem of gun control in the Philippines since it is such a huge problem in the region and people around the world don't know about it. Before all the research we have done, we didn't know anything about gun control in the Philippines and now that we understand what is happening in the Philippines we think that the world has to know about the problem and decided to start by teaching most of the students and teachers around our school about the problem of gun control in the Philippines. The Philippines is ranked no.20 out of the 178 countries for having more firearms. The problem in the Philippines is that there are many illegal gun trades since creating guns in the Philippines has more profit than having a farm. There are more than 100 manufacture gangs that create guns in the Philippines. There are about 2 million firearms registered in the Philippines and at least 60% of the firearms in the Philippines have been found using fictitious or questionable data, a dangerous situation since a gun can be used by someone but the gun is not registered or registered under someone's else name and address. Since 2009 the Philippines with the help of Colombia have been trying to find solutions for the issue of gun control and unregistered firearms in the region. There are more than 500,000 firearms unregistered in the Philippines, this leads to many dangerous events along the country, since practically everyone carries a firearm with them in the streets. Due to the lack of insecurity the priests, doctors and accountants are now able to carry guns with them while being on the streets. This law came out some months ago in mid November when the government in the Philippines decided to approve a law that allows many civilians to carry guns in the street.
