Gus Simpson
Filmmaker in Knoxville, Tennessee
Howdy do! I am a student filmmaker and I will be attending Middle Tennessee State University this fall. I have had a passion for motion pictures since I was nine and creating stop motion animations with Legos. Since then I have evolved into live action short films.
I formerly produced a sketch comedy web series called Noble Comedy. From that came Noble Film Group where myself and fellow friends who share a passion for the art coalesce to create dramatic shorts and comedies.
As a writer/director, I tend to gravitate toward the Avant Garde. I like to experiment a lot, both with technical and thematic aspects. Every once in a while I like to do cold cut traditional films. As an editor, I try and keep momentum rhythmic. My inner musician influences this a lot. Inside my NLE, I act as a sort of conductor, composing the film a long. I tend to judge cuts in terms of musical beats rather than physical seconds.
I am also an instrumental composer. I have a real appreciation for the type of music that elicits an emotional response without any words to do so. I try and incorporate this into my films.
The game from here on out is to learn. I have learned so much and I have so much more to learn. My goal is to settle down in Nashville and open up a studio where I can continue to work with passionate filmmakers and bring people to theaters, sending them away with a feeling they've not felt before.
